CHINSURA, MARCH 6, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. His
Holiness Karekin II Catholicos of All Armenians left on March 1
Calcutta for Chinsura, the earliest Armenian colony of Western
Bengal (no Armenian lives today in Chinsura). The Patriarchal
delegation visited in Chinsura the Surb Hovhannes Mkrtich (Saint
John the Baptist) church which was built in 1697 and is the
second ancient church of Westen Bengal.
As Noyan Tapan was informed by the Information Services of
the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, in the church His Holiness
prayed the God for rest of souls of all those Armenian sons who
once revived this prominent center of Armenian life in Far East.
