YEREVAN, DECEMBER 1, NOYAN TAPAN. A program developed by
the Institute of Nuclear Research in Dubna (Russia) and Yerevan
Physics Institute envisages the creation of a regional center in
Armenia with the aim of radionuclides production for the health
system of Armenia and regional countries and the introduction of
accelerator technologies in the adjacent fields of science and
technology. According to estimates, the program will cost 8.6
mln euros and can be implemented in 2.5 years.
On November 29 the members of the delegation headed by
Professor Alexey Sisakian, Director of the Dubna Institute,
corresponding member of the RF Academy of Sciences, foreign
member of the RA Academmy of Sciences, presented to the RA
Minister of Trade and Economic Development Karen Chshmaritian
the main provisions of the program and versions of its
implementation, explaining the necessity for the center's
creation by great demand for nuclear medicine in Armenia and
other countries of the region.
In the opinion of experts, the creation of such a center
will considerably improve medical services provided to the
population thanks to the introduction of new methods for
diagnosing and treating diseases. It may also form a basis for
the creation of new technologies in nuclear medicine,
biochemistry, biophysics, material science, environmental
protection, geology, nuclear astrophysics amd medical instrument
making.
According to a press release of the press service of the RA
Ministry of Trade and Economic Development, K Chshmaritian
attached special importance to the program's implementation in
Armenia in terms of forming the innovation system and developing
the innovation activity. He assured the delegation members that
the ministry will work out possible versions of assistance in
order to carry out this program.
