1.2% INFLATION REGISTERED IN ARMENIAN FOOD COMMODITY MARKET
IN FIRST NINE MONTHS OF 2006

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 3, NOYAN TAPAN. A 1.2% inflation was
registered in the Armenian food commodity market in September
2006 on December 2005 and a 6.8% inflation - in September 2006
on the same month of last year. At the same time, the prices of
food commodities fell by 1% in September on August 2006.
According to the RA National Statistical Service, the
prices of potato and vegetables grew by 25.2% in September 2006
on September 2005. During the indicated period, there was an
increase in the prices of onion (9.8%), cucumber (17.6%), carrot
(22.8%), beet (28.3%), garlic (32.1%), potato (48.4%) and
cabbage (59.3%).
A 9.1% price fall was registerd in the commodity group of
vegetables and potato in September on August 2006, which was
mainly due to a decline in the prices of carrot (33.7%), beet
(30.3%), cabbage (29.3%), onion (18.7%), tomato (16.1%) and
cauliflower (15.6%). A 2.4-6.6% decline was registered in the
price of green peper, eggplant, potato and cucumber in the
indicated period.
The 21.4% inflation in the fruit commodity group in
September 2006 on September 2005 was mostly due to a growth in
the prices of strawberry (22%), apple (29.5%), melon (52.4%),
pear (63.7%), peach (twofold) and plum (2.1fold).
Fruit prices fell in September on Augsut 2006, mainly as a
result of a decline in the prices of grapes (32.7%), melon
(20.9%), apple (16.2%) and plum (14.3%). There was a 1.7-4.5%
fall in the prices of peach, pear, watermelon, strawberry and
pomegranate over the indicated period.
The prices of butter and vegetable oil fell by 1.1% in
September on August 2006. There was a 42.7% growth in the prices
of fish products in September 2006 on the same month of last
year, and a 3.9% price growth in September on August 2006. The
price of granulated sugar grew by 28.5% in September 2006 on
September 2005, and a 1.7% decline in the price of granulated
sugar was registered in Armenia in September on August 2006. The
average price of eggs increased by 15.5% in September 2006 on
the same month of 2005 and by 7.2% on August of 2006.
The inflation in the commodity group of meat products made
4.1% in September 2006 on September 2005, 2.7% - on December
2005, and 0.1% - on August 2006. A 0.2% inflation was registered
in the commodity groups of bread products, milk products,
coffee, tea and cocoa in September on August 2006, while the
prices in the commodity groups of soft drinks, other foodstuffs,
confectionery, alcoholic drinks and cigarettes remained at the
previous month's level.
