4 FOREIGN CITIZENS GRANTED REFUGEE STATUS IN

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 25, NOYAN TAPAN. The Asylum Seeker Department of the RA Territorial Administration Ministry Staff's Migration Agency, received 100 applications from foreign citizens with the request to be granted asylum in January- October 2005. 82 applications contained a request for temporary asylum, and 18 ones - for being granted refugee status. According to Deputy Head of the Department Ruzanna Petrosian, all temporary asylum seekers were Iraqi citizens, while those applying for refugee status - citizens of Iran, Lebanon, Turkey and some other countries. She told NT correspondent that 4 persons, an Iranian, Iraqi, Lebanese and Turkish citizen, were granted refugee status. 7 applications were rejected on the grounds that the submitted data did not meet the requirements of the RA Law on Refugees, and another 7 applications are still under consideration. Of the persons who applied for temporary asylum, 37 received the right of 1-year asylum, and the remaining applications are under examination.
