YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 26, NOYAN TAPAN. No hotbeds of viruses of
the African plague of pigs have not been discovered in Armenia,
however, state of emergency is still declared in two regions of
the republic: Lori and Tavush, to avoid danger. According to the
information provided to a Noyan Tapan correspondent by Levon
Rukhkian, the RA Deputy Minister of Agriculture, at present a
twenty-four-hour control is being conducted in those regions so
as no infected pork is brought out of those regions. According
to him, a twenty-four-hour control is being conducted in the
markets of Yerevan as well.
Levon Rukhkian mentioned that, in general, 10 thousand pigs
have been annihilated in the republic since August, 5 thousand out
of which obligatorily. Whereas in Georgia 40 thousand pigs were
annihilated in the first month the virus was discovered.
In response to the question of whether no increase in the
price of pork is expected on the eve of the New Year, the Deputy
Minister mentioned that there is a rather great amount of pork
in the market and an increase in the price will only be
artificial.
