Armenia stands for peace, agreement and solidarity, however his neighbours not always have the similar approach. The secretary of the Armenian National Security Council Artur Baghdasaryan announced this in the international conference held from May 19-20 in Yerevan, with the title “CSTO and South Caucasus, the perspectives for peace and security in the region”. He explained, that Azerbaijan’s and Turkey’s destructive approach towards the solution of problems in South Caucasus don’t give hope, that in future the region will develop in spirit of peace and agreement. A. Baghdasaryan also noted that the important political priorities for Armenia are peace, stability, normalization of relations with neighbours, but destructive approaches prevented the solution of those problems. “We are sure that mutually accepted compromise is better than senseless confrontation,” announced RA NSC secretary, underlying that here the role of CSTO is very important. In his words, all problems existed in the region should be perceived rightly by the organization and “we will be able to form with our main allies joint mechanism of solution of the problems”. By A. Baghdasaryan’s assessment, Russia is the main ally and military companion of Armenia and the cooperation actively develops. According to the secretary of the NSC, in 2010, the “politically important agreement” signed between the two countries, that prolongs the date of staying the Russian military in Armenia, will contribute to the strengthening of the security of the two countries. “The cooperation of the two countries also efficiently develops in the frames of CSTO”, noted RA NSC secretary.
