ARMAVIR, MAY 23, NOYAN TAPAN. A mobile ocular hospital
created on the initiative of American Armenian benefactor Roger
Hovhannisian and professor Malayan will function in Armavir up
to May 27. As Asatur Hovsepian, Coordinating Doctor of the
mobile ocular hospital, said in his talk to Noyan Tapan
correspondent, the goal of the mobile hospital is to take the
high-end ocular technology to the regions and to provide free
medical aid to the patients.
It is already the second time the mobile hospital visits
Armavir: first it rendered free medical service 3 years ago. It
is mainly the region's needy citizens and pensioners that are
rendered free medical assistance. According to A.Hovsepian, this
time the number of the patients is bigger, which, probably, is
conditioned by their bad financial position. Medical assistance
is provided here by the doctors of the respective departments of
Ocular Center after Malayan, Yerevan hospitals N 8 and N 1. The
patients call this charity program a salvation of their
eyesight.
It was envisaged to implement this program as far back as
in the 80-90-s but the hospital moved from the U.S. to Armenia
only in 2002 and the first stage of charity medical service
started from 2003 July.
