YEREVAN, JUNE 30, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. On June
29, the exhibition of more than 10 works by Dutch painter Sitse
Bakker opened at the National Gallery of Armenia. Works painted
by the motives of Mandelshtam's "Armenia" poetic cycle were
presented at the exhibition.
Sitse Bakker mentioned that he mainly illustrates works by
Russian writers of 20th century. The Dutch painter shows special
interest in Mandelshtam's creation. Bakker took a special
interest in the poet's cycle of poems entitled "Armenia" and he
tried to illustrate Armenia with bright colors. In his pictures
the painter used elements of Armenian miniature.
"One must visit Armenia in order to understand the Armenian
culture. In 2001 I came to Armenia and started to study the
Armenian culture, visited the heathen temple in Garni,
Zvartnots, Etchmiadzin. These wonderful constructions amazed
me," the Dutch painter mentioned.
The painter's works were exhibited in a number of European
countries and in the US. This exhibition of S.Bakker was
presented in St Petersburg in 2004. The Dutch painter gave these
works to the National Gallery of Armenia.
