ARMENIAN JUNIOR FOOTBALL-PLAYERS SUCCESSFULLY OVERCOME
FIRST ROUND OF EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

YEREVAN, October 7 (Noyan Tapan). The first round of the
2004-2005 European Football Championship among U-19
football-players held in Macedonia completed. The junior
national team of Armenia also participated in it. In the
tournament junior football-players of Armenia were beaten by the
national team of France with a score of 1:2, but they beat the
national team of Macedonia with a score of 2:1 and completed the
match with the Azeri national team in a draw. So, the Armenian
national team, earning four points, placed second in the group.
The national team of Armenia together with the national team of
France, which placed first earning nine points, received the
right for participation in the second round of the European
Championship to be held in spring of 2005. The team which will
place first in this tournament will receive the right to perform
in the finals.
The national football team of U-19 girls also participated
in such a tournament in Estonia. It was twice beaten by the
national team of Italy (with a score of 0:9) and the national
team of Sweden (with a score of 0:11), but it beat the national
team of Estonia with a score of 2:1 and placed third. After the
completion of all these competitions of the first round it will
become clear whether the Armenian team will continue struggle or
not. Only the national teams of Italy and Sweden still received
the right to participate in the second round.
