FEMALE WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE HELD IN BATUMI

YEREVAN, April 9 (Noyan Tapan). It was decided that the 2004
female World Chess Championship will be held in Tbilisi. But new
versions appeared after the shift of power in Georgia. Referring to
the Georgian Chess Federation, FIDE informs that President of
Adzharia Aslan Abashidze gave his accord to hold the championship in
Batumi. It is expected that the tournament will start in May. FIDE
will soon set exact terms of holding the Championship.
The World Championship will be held by a knock-out system: 64
chess-players will compete for the title of the world champion. Two
Armenian representatives, grand masters Elina Danielian and Lilit
Mkrtchian will be among the participants.
The prize fund of the World Championship makes 450,000 dollars.
