Washington, DC - This week, the House of Representatives unanimously approved H. R. 6392, legislation introduced by Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA) and supported by Virginia's entire Congressional delegation, to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 5003 Westfields Boulevard in Centreville, Virginia, as the "Colonel George Juskalian Post Office Building," in honor of Colonel Juskalian's distinguished military career and dedication to public service, reported the Armenian Assembly of America (Assembly). Col. George Juskalian in uniform, 1964 Colonel Juskalian passed away on July 4, 2010 and was burried with full honors in Arlington National Cemetery on October 19, 2010. Col. Juskalian, a longtime Centreville resident, was one of the most highly decorated Armenian-American veterans to ever serve in the United States military. During his nearly 30-year career, Col. Juskalian was the recipient of the Army's highest award, the Legion of Merit, for non-combat services, as well as the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Medal and the Parachutist Badge, and the Combat Infantry Badge with a Star awarded for World War II and the Korean War. After leaving the military as one of our nation's highest ranking Armenian-American servicemen, Col. Juskalian continued to serve the community by volunteering in local schools and sharing his message of the importance of public service in appreciation for the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans. Those were values learned at an early age from his parents, who were at the forefront of Armenian immigrants in America who worked to establish the Armenian Church in the United States. Speaking on the floor of the House this week, Rep. Wolf stated, "Naming the Centreville, Virginia, post office facility after Colonel George Juskalian will be a fitting tribute to his many years of service, and will also represent a constant reminder of the sacrifices made by members of the United States armed services." Earlier this year, Rep. Wolf read a statement on the floor of the House, preserving Col. Juskalian's life, legacy and dedication to American values in the historical record of the United States Congress. "On behalf of the Armenian community, we commend Congressman Wolf for his dedication and commitment to his constituents and to Armenian-American issues," stated Assembly Grassroots Director Taniel Koushakjian. Having passed the House of Representatives, H. R. 6392 moves to the Senate for consideration where it is expected to be adopted and then sent to the President for signature into law.
