French cultural figures of Armenian origin have sent a letter-message to the French parliament, government and political parties encouraging them to pass the bill criminalizing the denial of genocides. The parliament, government and political parties will be voting for the bill in Senate on January 23. According to “ArmenPress”, in reference to Nouvelles d’Armenie, in the letter it is particularly stated: “We French actors and creators of Armenian origin express our support to the bill criminalizing the denial of genocides adopted by the National Assembly. It is hard to feel more offended than at the moment when the inheritor of the one that perpetrated that crime denies the tragedy. That hurts more because you can’t revive the deceased. The framework decisions against Racism, Discrimination and Denial adopted by the European Union clearly have an impact on the legislation of the Republic of France as well. We, who have supported the development of French culture and the promotion of plurality, address the government, as well as the right-wing and left-wing political parties preparing to support the mentioned bill and assure you that the adoption of the latter is very important for us.” The letter is signed by Charles Aznavour, Vinsen Begian, Frederic Nevchehirlian, Levon Saian, Helen Segara, Raffi Shart, Alan Terzian, Serzh Avetikian, Erik Chivanian, Sofi Fontanel, Robert Gedigian and Andre Manoukian.
