25, dedicated to the 500th aniversary of book-printing in Armenia VivaCell-MTS is the General Sponsor of the Armenian e-content competition, organized by the Armenian Fund for Information Technologies and the Armenian Association of Electronic Content November 24, 2010, Yerevan, Armenia Armenian Association of Electronic Content and VivaCell-MTS, a subsidiary of “Mobile TeleSystems”, announce that November 25 through December 25, the 5th All-Armenian competition for electronic content will be held in Yerevan. The event is dedicated to the 500th aniversary of book-printing in Armenia. The purpose of the competition is to discover and highlight the achievements of Armenia in the sphere of electronic content in 2009-2010. The event is considered to be another effective tool to encourage the presentation of Armenia’s e-content products and achievements internationally. The 2010 competition is the fifth competition in a row. The first competition was organized in 2003 under the name “Mashtots 1600”, dedicated to the 1600th aniversary of the creation of the Armenian alphabet. In total 800 multimedia works took part in the previous four competitions, and the winners participated at International Summits’ Prize-awarding events held in 2003 in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2005 in Tunisia, and in 2007 in Delhi (WSA-WORLD SUMMIT AWARD). Armenian participants returned home with three international awards. “Extending hands to the initiatives that will contribute to Armenia’s economic development are placed on the list of priorities of Armenia’s Leading Mobile Operator. The experience of developed countries shows that production of quality e-content can create competitive advantage. In order to keep the pace with the rapidly evolving world, we first need to encourage the development of electronic content, and present our achievements to the world. This is how we can promote Armenia as a high-tech country able to cope with international trends,” - said VivaCell-MTS General Manager. Like in previous years, this year’s competition also will be held according to 8 nominations as defined by WSA procedure, which are the following: e-Learning & Education, e-Science & Technology, e-Culture & Heritage, e-Entertainment & Games, e-Business & Commerce, e-Government & Institutions, e-Health & Environment and e-Inclusion & Participation. The winners will be the top 16 participants who will get the highest points, as well as the best two participants in each nomination. The Top 16 will get monetary awards while the winners within each nomination will be granted an opportunity to participate in the most presitigeous multimedia world competition of World Summit Award (see http://www.wsis-award.org). Like in previous competitions, this year also the winners will be awarded significant monetary awards. The prize fund was confirmed by the sponsors. It is equal to the dram equivalent of 10 thousand US dollars. The Top 8 students will receive 300 thousand drams each. The next 8 winners will receive 150 thousand drams each. The reason for the organization of the competition and ensuring the continuity of the event is to help reveal and evaluate the potential of Armenia in the sphere of information technologies. The organizers of the competition are the Armenian Fund for Information Technologies and the Armenian Association of Electronic Content. The Government of Armenia, All Armenia Fund and Icon Communications are the sponsors of the event. VivaCell-MTS is the General sponsor of the event.
