37 MEPs heading to Baku to strengthen cooperation with EU's Easter neighbours

A delegation of 37 Members of European Parliament next week will visit Baku, Azerbaijan, to meet their counterparts from Eastern Partnership countries in the 2nd ordinary session of Euronest parliamentary assembly that will take place 2-4 April in Milli Mejlis (Azerbaijani Parliament). Four topical reports are scheduled to be adopted during the 2nd ordinary session, including report on energy infrastructure, on future of democracy and free and independent media, on trade agreements and on cooperation between government and civil society both in the Eastern Partnership and in the EU countries. Also the issues connected to participation of Belarus will be discussed during the meetings. The head of European Parliament's delegation is MEP Kristian VIGENIN (S&D, BG). The co-president from Eastern partners is Mr Borys TARASUK, former foreign minister of Ukraine. What is Euronest? The EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly is an interparliamentary forum of EU Eastern Partnership which was launched in Prague on May 7, 2009 and foresees a substantial upgrading of the level of engagement of the EU with the six Partner Countries in the East (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine). Euronest is the institution responsible for parliamentary consultation, supervision and monitoring of Eastern Partnership. It consists of the European Parliament delegation and the Eastern European Partners' delegations. Belarus for the time being due to political reasons does not take part in the Assembly's activities.
