MFA STATEMENT ON RECOGNITION OF BREAKAWAY REGIONS BY RUSSIA

TBILISI, AUGUST 27, NOYAN TAPAN. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia has released a statement in connection with the second anniversary of recognition of so-called independence of Georgia’s breakaway regions by Russia, reported CAUCASUS PRESS. The ministry said that since 1990s Russia has been pursuing aggressive policy aimed at undermining Georgian statehood, disintegration of Georgia and its submission to Russia’s neo-imperialist ambitions. The ministry accused Russia of ethnic cleansings of on the territory of Georgia and violation of all international norms and agreements. Kremlin’s aggressive policy has caused a deadlock in Georgian-Russian relations, destabilization in the Caucasus and the Black Sea region, and jeopardized fundamental principles of the system of international relations, the MFA said.
