YEREVAN, MAY 24, NOYAN TAPAN. The 2010 parliamentary
elections in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic were free,
independent and transparent. A delegation of independent
American and Dutch observers of the Public International Law and
Policy Group came to this conclusion. The delegation head
Michael Kovaka told the May 24 press conference in Yerevan that
their observers were present at 7 out of the 8 electoral
districts and did not notice any gross violation. He said that
no circumstances to impede the normal voting process were
observed by their delegation at the pre-election stage either.
According to M. Kovaka, they had monitored four previous
elections in the NKR so it can be said that "Nagorno Karabakh
has made great progress towards its independent and democratic
future".
The 2010 elections were the 5th parliamentary elections
held in Nagorno Karabakh since 1991. About 90 international
observers from 14 countries, including Canada, Russia, Armenia,
Argentina, the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic, Denmark,
Ireland, France and the U.S, monitored the latest elections.
