The leading telecommunications operator of Armenia pays particular importance to the efforts aimed at the quality education, and the cooperation between VivaCell-MTS and the Ministry of Education and Science rests on this understanding. At the joint press conference held today at VivaCell-MTS’ Headquarters the sides presented the first steps taken for the creation of Armenian school and university ranking lists. The press conference was presided by VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian, the RA Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan, the Deputy Minister Karine Haroutyunyan and the Head of the Department of Development Programs and Monitoring Robert Stepanyan.

At the present the educational institutions ranking lists in Armenia are built based on public opinion, which cannot be fully void of subjectivity. This way of ranking will now be replaced with an already developed and approved professional method. The reform is in line with the Law on General Education System and the efforts to integrate into Bologna process.

The best way to develop an efficient national model of ranking is the localization of the best international practice. Armenia is included in the list of 10-15 countries, which aspire to introduce the novelty. The tools developed this year will be introduced in 2013 as a pilot program. The method will be finalized only upon the completion of the testing.

The first-time introduced tools seek to become an unbiased basis for the school and university evaluation and are important means of responsibility before the society and provision of transparency in the system of education.

“The abundance of information in the modern world obliges finding the best ways of getting quality education. The most perspective way of proving the country’s competitive advantage is the knowledge. VivaCell-MTS supports educational initiatives with a special commitment and aims to make the scientific potential of the country serve to the best of the Nation,” said VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian.

The national system of university ranking of the Republic of Armenia (the methodology, indices, and the mechanisms of calculation) were presented by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Karine Harutyunyan; Robert Stepanyan, the Head of the Projects and Monitoring Department of the Ministry, presented the ranking system of the general educational institutions.
