CJSC “SCR” Explanations on the Publication “Railway Passengers in the Panic because of a Russian Company” in “Aravot” newspaper of 11.01.2013

CJSC "South Caucasus Railway" since January 1, 2013 has made changes to the tariffs for the transportation of passengers in suburban electric trains.
The need for change is considered by unprofitability of passenger transport and the competition in the Armenian market. In 2010 losses from suburban passenger traffic totaled 2003.7 million drams and in 2011 1822.2 million drams. Moreover, losses only from Ararat and Yeraskh trains amounted to 180.2 million drams in 2010 and in 2011 to 200.5 million drams.
CJSC "SCR" carries suburban passenger services in a competitive transport market where the share of rail transport is only 3-4%.
Comparative cost of travel by rail in the third zone is 1000 drams compared with the price of vehicles in 1500 AMD, in the second zone it counts to 600 drams compared with the price of vehicles in 500-600 AMD, in the first zone it counts to 300AMD compared with the price vehicles in the 400-500 drams.
The average passenger’s interests are considered while setting cost changes into tariff policy who passes a distance of 50 km. These passengers are usually from Armavir, Ararat, Hrazdan stations. The tickets for this category of passengers remains the same, that is 300 AMD.
Like the other CIS countries the frequent customers and students can gain monthly subscriptions for 48 trips with 20% discount for daily trips. Thus, the cost of tickets reduces accordingly from 300 to 240 drams (for the first zone), from 600 to 480 drams (for the second zone) and from 1000 to 800 drams (for the third zone).
From 1 January 2013 the monitoring for regular rail users is held so due to these results the subscription system will be updated with the possibility of establishing a discount of up to 30%.
