The most prestigious Red Bull King of the Rock 2013 street basketball official tournament in Armenia is now over with the winner to head to San Francisco to represent Armenia in the world final on September 28.
Red Bull King of the Rock is the first in the history of the street basketball, which gives an opportunity to play basketball in the yard of Alcatraz, the former prison and one of the most famous tourist attractions of the world, which will be hosting the King of the Rock tournament for the fourth year now. The former penitentiary, now a museum, is a destination of millions of tourists each year. Along with the title, the winner of the tournament will get a USD 20000 prize.
The world final will host representatives from 64 countries, including Armenia, Austria, Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Georgia, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Ukraine, and the USA. The representatives of these countries will make a team of 64 players. The qualifiers in the respective countries have defined one participant from each of the nations. The remaining part of the participants will represent the USA, the country where the tournament was born.
The inspirer of the tournament is the NBA star and a Boston Celtics defender Rajon Rondo. As before, this year again, Rondo will be present at the final to inspire the players and to congratulate the King of the Rock in person.
