YEREVAN, APRIL 23, NOYAN TAPAN. "I think today's statement
of the political coalition is the consequence of the coalition
consultation that the Armenian president held yesterday, in
other words, I am confident that the presidential address will
contain the same concerns as those expressed in the joint
statement of the coalition," Naira Zohrabian, a member of the
political board of the Prosperous Armenia party (PAP) and "PAP"
parliamentary faction, told NT correspondent on April 22.
Let us remind that the political boards of the parties
making up the political coalition in Armenia's National Assembly
issued a joint statement on April 22. The statement is
particular said: "The political majority of the RA National
Assembly considers as unacceptable the statements made by the
Turkish side, particularly by Prime Minister Erdogan in recent
days, which again directly link the ratification of
Armenian-Turkish protocols by Turkish parliament with the
settlement of the conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and
Azerbaijan. At the same time, taking into consideration the fact
that the Turkish side's refusal to ratify the protocols without
preconditions within a reasonable time frame renders meaningless
the continuation of their ratification process in the National
Assembly of Armenia at the given stage, the coalition considers
it necessary to suspend this process and withdraw the issue's
discussion from the agenda of four-day sessions of the National
Assembly until the Turkish side is ready for further
continuation of the process without preconditions".
According to N. Zohrabian, prior to his trip to Washington,
the president said that he already had a decision to be made
public after he would finally make sure of its validity. "I am
convinced that the President made sure of the validity of his
decision after the Turkish prime minister's mutually exclusive
statements typical of the fraudulent and adventurist policy of
Tyrkey," she noted. She said it would be a correct step to
withdraw the bill from the Armenian parliament, noting that now
it is Turkey's turn to respond. "If Turkey wants to have its
place among civilized countries and if this country and its
prime minister are reluctant to cause contempt of the
international community, then Turkey has a chance to save its
face and ratify the Armenian-Turkish protocols without
preconditions; otherwise we have nothing to lose: Turkey cannot
close the same border for a second time," N. Zohrabian said.
