ANKARA, APRIL 8, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. The Turkish
Ambassador to the U.S. Namik Tan, who had been recalled by
Ankara after adoption of the resolution recognizing the
Armenian Genocide by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the U.S.
House of Representatives, left for Washignton on April 6.
Prior to his departure Namik Tan told reporters that some
messages were received from the U.S. and he was leaving to carry
out his duties as ambassador, Turkish newspaper Sabah reported,
adding the ambassador will prepare the Washington meetings of
Turish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan with U.S. President
Barack Obama and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan.
"The Turkish prime minister will convey three messages to
the Armenian president in the U.S. The first one is that the
strong will of the heads of the two states is required to
continue the Armenian-Turkish rapprochement, the second message
is that for ratification of the protocols, it is necessary to
stop the Diaspora's actions, and the third one is that it is
necessary to jointly discuss the process taking place within the
framework of the OSCE Minsk Group," the paper writes, noting
that Erdogan will also make three proposals to Obama: to
pressurize Armenia to accept the Madrid document, the U.S.
should have a say in the Karabakh settlement and the
Armenia-Turkey normalization, and Turkey will not betray
Azerbaijan," Yerkir newspaper wrote. According to Yerkir,
Erdogan's visit is the result of the March 28 phone conversation
between U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Foreign
Minister of Turkey Ahmet Davutoglu.
