YEREVAN, MARCH 16, NOYAN TAPAN - ARMENIANS TODAY. "Armenia
has demonstrated that it is a reliable and stable partner for
the international community," Edward Sharmazanov, secretary of
the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) parliamentary faction and
spokesman for RPA, stated during the National Assembly deputies'
statement hour on March 16, when commenting on the latest
developments related to the Armenian-Turkish process and the
international recognition of the Armenian Genocide. In his
words, the fact that U.S. President Obama invited President of
Armenia Serzh Sargsyan to attend the Global Nuclear Security
Summit is graphic evidence of what he said.
E. Sharmazanov also spoke about Azerbajanian Foreign
Minister Elmar Mamedyarov's "another absurd statement" regarding
solution of the Karabakh problem within the framework of
Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. "The key to solution of the
Karabakh problem is not in Baku, but in Stepanakert," E.
Sharmazanov said, underlining that fair solution of the problem
is impossible without the participation of Nagorno Karabakh. "If
Azerbaijan really wants to resolve the problem, it should
withdraw its troops from NKR territories it occupied and ensure
the return of Armenian refugees there," he said.
Member of Heritage faction Zaruhi Postanjian declared that
Armenian authorities must recognize independence of the Republic
of Artsakh and include the issue of its international
recognition in the agenda of Armenia's foreign policy. She also
considered it necessary that a state large-scale program on
Artsakh's resettlement be developed and implemented as soon as
possible.
In the words of RPA faction member Karine Achemian, it is
time for the idea of Artsakh's resettlement to become a national
problem.
