The village of Khndzorut in Vayots Dzor region is bordering Nakhijevan. The village had a destroyed infrastructure of outdoor lighting after the collapse of the Soviet system. Trying to solve this problem, the locals have lightened several streets by the means of the community, although the result was not satisfying: more energy was exhausted than expected, providing insufficient lighting. Most of the lights were out of order; their replacement with new ones has caused more need to make additional costs.

A program was launched in the village a year ago in the framework of "Alternative Energy" project implemented in the frames of the cooperation between the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets and VivaCell-MTS. During the first stage of the program 60 LED lights have been installed in the village illuminating the main streets of the village, which is an 1800 meters long area.

The collaborating parties have completed the second stage of the program as well. This time a lighting system of 34 LED lights have been installed. 3200 meters long space has been illuminated. As a result of the entire program 94 lights were installed, illuminating 5000 meters long space, involving the whole village. The residents of Khndzorut will celebrate the New Year in an entirely illuminated village.

The launching of the system was attended by the General Manager of VivaCell-MTS Ralph Yirikian, the Founder of FPWC Ruben Khachatryan and the residents of the community as well.

“This program stands out in one important aspect: it is not limited to particularly visible outcomes. Its environmental usefulness will be seen years after, unlike its financial efficiency. Cutting financial expenses is particularly important for our compatriots living in the borderland areas. We strive to ease the burden of the residents, the village, and equally the community. The saved means can be directed to solve other persistent problems here. This is what we mean when talking about responsible approach, which has guided us from the very first day of our activities,” said VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian.

The installation of the energy efficient outdoor lighting system is an important precondition for community development. As a result of the project the budgetary spending will be significantly reduced, which will allow solving other problems. The use of the energy efficient technologies will allow relieving the financial burden of Zaritap community, and to enliven the life of Khndzorut village as well.

The use of environmental and energy-efficient LED lights is economically efficient for the villages with small budgets. The use of such a system will reduce the community's outdoor lighting costs up to 80%, easing the financial burden of the residents.

The lamps will lighten the streets of the community from 21:00 to 00:00 in summer, and from 18:00 to 23:00 in winter. The village will be lightened up throughout nights on holidays.
