While the “Made in Italy” is a well-recognized global brand, a “Made in Armenia” could be very interesting for the international community, the Head of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Brussels office, representative of UNIDO to the EU Patrick Gilabert said in an interview with Noyan Tapan correspondent.

In his words, he fully agrees with the observation by Armenian President Armen Sargsyan that Armenia is a crossroads connecting the east to the west, and the north to the south. The country should take advantage of this strategic position, but also benefit from the economic potential of the Diaspora.

Mr. Gilabert mentioned that more than 60 percent of UNIDO's technical support to developing countries is focused around supporting their efforts to move towards circular economy, promoting the effective use of natural resources, avoiding potential waste, and fulfilling obligations towards global environmental agreements.

"Within the United Nations system UNIDO is unique in the sense that it works concretely with producers, i.e. small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and industries. This is the case for UNIDO’s projects on textile modernization or buckwheat production, international experts come to Armenia and work hand in hand with local specialists and workers, transferring concrete knowledge, advice and technical skills”  commented Mr. Gilabert; he added that  UNIDO supports SMEs to find relevant contacts and establish relations with regional and global markets.

Talking about his impression from the Francophonie Summit, UNIDO representative to the EU highlighted the fact that OIF is the second largest international organization after the UN, and both organizations will closely cooperate and participate in the economic forums and activities.

He mentioned that this was the first time UNIDO participated in the Francophonie Summit, and his first personal visit to Armenia.

“Today, it is the family of Francophonie that meets! Colorful, united by a language spoken by 300 million Francophones from five continents! UNIDO is proud to be part of this Summit in Erevan,” said Patrick Gilabert.

Sharing his impressions from the summit, Patrick Gilabert, French by nationality, was greatly impressed by the level of openness and accessibility of high-ranking Armenian Officials

"I have seen that the country is able to host so many Head of States presidents, organize their open air events when the people are in the same square, and the leaders are sitting just next to the people gathered in the square during the Gala concert. It shows how safe the country is, the people can simply approach them and discuss issues of interest to them," said the head of the UNIDO Brussels office.
