YEREVAN, MARCH 13, NOYAN TAPAN. "Heritage" party and the Armenian National Congress are still discussing the format, in which "Heritage" will run in the May 31 elections of Yerevan Council of Aldermen, with the results to become known later this week. The head of the National Assembly "Heritage" faction Armen Martirosian announced this at the March 13 press conference. In his words, if the authorities reduce rigging even by 20% as compared with the 2008 presidential elections, the opposition (running in the united format or separately) may win. In the opinion of A. Martirosian, by nominating the head of Yerevan's Avan district Taron Margarian as mayor, the authorities would have a greater chance to win in fair elections. However, according to the head of "Heritage" faction, it will be much easier for the authorities to control the activity of Gagik Beglarian. A. Martirosian did not share the opinion that the outcome of the elections is already predetermined. "An objective analysis shows that the victory of the opposition, especially united opposition, is much more real that the authorities' victory," he said.
