FIDE Chairman welcomes Armenian authorities' efforts aimed
at chess development

YEREVAN, MARCH 3, NOYAN TAPAN. RA President Serzh Sargsyan,
the Chairman of the Republican Chess Federation, receiving on
March 3 Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the Chairman of the International
Chess Federation, the President of Kalmykia, was pleased to say
that the latter's every visit to Armenia becomes a start for a
new practical program. He also said that it is time to realize
the agreements reached during the 38th World Chess Olympiad in
Dresden.
K. Ilyumzhinov once more congratulated the Armenian national
team on the occasion of its brilliant victory in the World Chess
Olympiad and welcomed the authorities' efforts aimed at chess
development. He also presented the steps undertaken by FIDE
to develop that kind of sport and to make it more popular. In that
context the idea of building Chess a Chamber in Yerevan was discussed. In
general, the idea was approved. Teaching of chess as an optional
subject at schools was also spoken about.
According to the report of the RA President's Press Office,
the interlocutors also touched upon the preparation for the
Grand Prix International Chess Tournament to be held in August
in Yerevan.
