YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 9, NOYAN TAPAN. The Master Plan of
Yerevan has an environmental orientation so all further measures
and actions based on the Master Plan are aimed at improving the
ecological situation in the capital city, the Chief Architect of
Yerevan Samvel Danielian said at the February 9 press
conference.
According to him, in order to have an ecologically clean
city, it is necessary first of all to reconstruct its districts.
Such work is now being done in Main Avenue and the area adjacent
to the Wine Plant. The chief architect announced that the Kond
district's reconstruction project has already been developed and
will be presented for discussion by late February. Besides, the
inventory of 61 areas has been made, and reconstruction will
start there in the coming months.
The second important problem related to improvement of the
ecological situation in Yerevan is, in the words of S.
Danielian, functional unloading of the center of the city. It is
envisaged turning Yerevan into a proportionally developed city
in the next years - based on the zoning projects. In particular
some functions will be transferred from the center to other
areas of Yerevan. Besides, it is planned to build centers of
city importance on highways into Yerevan and out of it. It is
also envisaged creating an international center in Noragyugh,
an area adjacent to the center, where offices of international
organizations and diplomatic missions will be located, while
residents of this area will be moved to newly-constructed
buildings.
