BRUSSELS, NOVEMBER 28, NOYAN TAPAN. An Armenia-EU technical
meeting on justice, liberty and security (JLS) related issues
was held in Brussels on November 25. The meeting is the first
stage of the creation of a EU-Armenia cooperation subcommitee on
justice related issues. The Armenian side was represented by an
interdepartmental delegation composed of experts of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Migration
Agency of the Ministry of Territorial Administration, the RA
Police and the National Security Service. About 20 experts of
the European Commission took part in the meeting.
The purpose of the meeting was to present the EU's policy
to the Armenian side and discuss JLS related reforms in Armenia.
The implementation of the respective sections of the European
Neighborhood Policy's Armenia-EU Action Plan, as well as issues
related to migration, entry visas, security of travel documents
were discussed.
According to the RA MFA Press and Information Department,
it is envisaged creating a EU-Armenia cooperation subcommittee
on JLS related issues in 2009, which in its turn will form an
institutional basis for starting an Armenia-EU dialog on
simplification of the entry visa regime.
