FRANCE TELECOM RECEIVES PRELIMINARY LICENCE

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 17, NOYAN TAPAN. France Telecom company has been announced the winner of the tender for a licence of the third mobile phone communication operator and permission to use radiofrequences in Armenia. The RA Public Services Regulatory Commission made this decision on October 17. According to the rules, France Telecom has already registered a local company - FTA Telecom in Armenia which is considered to be preliminary licensed until the company receives its final licence and permissions after the law-envisaged period of 4 weeks. The head of the commission's telecommunication department Gevorg Gevorgian said that within the next two years the company will establish 42 offices in marzes (provinces) and is obliged to provide GSM open-air coverage in Yerevan and 42 cities of the country, as well as along 85% of Armenia's interstate higways linking Yerevan with Georgia and Iran.
