YERAVAN, OCTOBER 10, NOYAN TAPAN. On October 11, the solo
concert of France-based famous pianist Vardan Mamikonian will be
held in the Aram Khachatrian concert hall within the framework
of the second festival of classic music titled Return which is
being held in Yerevan.
As USSR People's Artist Eduard Mirzoyan said at the October
10 press conference, V. Mamikonian is a phenomenon in the music
life. "He is the son of famous violinist Levon Mamikonian, and I
am happy that today his son continues his father's work by
presenting pieces of the Armenian classic art," the composer
said.
In V. Mamikonian's words, it is his first solo concert in
Aram Khachatrian concert hall which is binding. In the words of
the young pianist, unlike the other countries, in Armenia the
youth is interested in classic music. "This is an exceptional
phenomenon, as I haven't noticed such interest in any other
country. I am sure that it comes from our upbringing, and I hope
that phenomenon will be continual," the pianist emphasized. At
the same time he mentioned that the Armenian classic music
always excites interest among foreigners, especially
works by Komitas, Avet Terterian, and Tigran Mansurian.
V. Mamikonian studied at Moscow P. Tchaikovski
Conservatoire. He took part in many international festivals,
received the first prize of the World Music Masters Contest
held in Monte Carlo, had solo concerts in famous
concert halls of the world.
