The issues regarding the change of school jurisdiction have been discussed with representatives of the regional administrations.
The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasian, met with the heads of the education sector coordinators from the staff of the regional governors of Armenia to discuss the upcoming changes in the subordination of general education institutions expected in September, as well as issues related to the transfer of administrative and economic functions to the regions. This was reported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports (MoESCS).

Present at the meeting were the Deputy Minister of MoESCS, Araksia Svajyan, the Chief Secretary of the Ministry, Hasmik Hakobyan, and heads of various departments.

Presenting the agenda items, Zhanna Andreasian noted that the amendments made to the "Law on General Education" have clarified the functions of the ministry and the regions. Accordingly, starting from the upcoming September, the substantive management function of the general education schools in the regions will be reserved for the authorized body of state governance in education, the MoESCS, while the administrative and economic functions will be fully transferred to the regional administrations, in addition to other supporting functions clearly outlined in the law.

A number of clarifications stemming from the legislative changes have also been made in the sub-legislative acts, and at this stage, according to the minister, the smooth organization of the transitional phase is a priority.

Taking into account the scale of the change, awareness visits are planned in the regions soon, involving school directors and administrative coordinators.

"The transformation of school environments is one of the most important programs of the Government. The activities of the regions continue to be crucial in ensuring the uninterrupted processes of the educational system. The regions will continue to play a key role in the implementation of various state programs carried out in the education system. The main role of the ministry remains to ensure a unified substantive policy. We have a responsibility to ensure quality education for all children, and in this matter, every state body must support by fulfilling the tasks arising from its functions," said the minister, emphasizing the successful cooperation between the ministry and the regional administrations in school construction programs.

The meeting also discussed issues related to the organization of educational activities, changes in the school management model, the implementation of the Government's "300 schools, 500 kindergartens" program, and several other sector-related issues.
