On the occasion of Europe Day, the European Union Delegation to Armenia is organizing a classical concert with famous soprano Anna Samuil at 19:00 on 28 June 2011 at Aram Khachatryan Concert Hall. In the last years the Delegation has established a tradition of classical concerts on the occasion of Europe Day with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra. This year the EU Delegation has already started the Europe Day celebrations with an open-air public celebration on 21 May at the Lover's Park. All media is invited to cover the upcoming gala event. Europe Day is an occasion for activities and festivities that bring Europe closer to its citizens and neighbours. Historically it goes back to 9 May 1950, when Robert Schuman presented his proposal on the creation of an organised Europe, necessary for peaceful relations and development. Today, the 9th of May has become a European symbol (Europe Day) which, along with the flag, the anthem, the motto and the single currency (the Euro), identifies the political entity of the European Union. Anna Samuil is an internationally celebrated soprano and a principal soprano at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin. This season she plays the roles of Rosalinde in die Fledermaus, Adina in L'elisir d'amore, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte and Violetta in La Traviata, as well as the annual New Years Gala concert, Beethoven IX, with Daniel Barenboim. Ms. Samuil has appeared at festivals and opera houses such as the Metropolitan Opera New York, Teatro Alla Scala Milan, Salzburg Festival, Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Royal Opera House Covent garden, and many others.
