On July 4, the RA President Serzh Sargsyan received the Secretary General of UN World Tourism Organization Taleb Rifai. Greeting the guest the President noted that he highly appreciated the role and significance of UN World Tourism Organization as the world chief forum for issues of politics and tourism activity in the field of tourism. In Serzh Sargsyan’s words it is obvious that tourism industry is becoming more and more important in the world economy, for the solution of social problems, as well as in cultural and political fields. Serzh Sargsyan noted that tourism was the major branch of Armenia’s economy and though annually over 20% rise was registered in that field, the tourism had great potential in Armenia which was necessary to use fully. “Naturally, we also attach importance to the development of tourism and are very happy that over 15 years we have joined world organization and have the good future of the cooperation,” the president said and expressed confidence that the visit of the Secretary General of UN World Tourism Organization would give a new impetus to the cooperation. During the meeting the Secretary General of UN World Tourism Organization handed the president Serzh Sargsyan the open letter of UN World Tourism Organization and World Travel and Tourism Council, noting that during the campaign such letters are handed to the heads of different countries in the world. The press office of the RA President informed “Noyan Tapan” about this.
