YEREVAN, JUNE 23, NOYAN TAPAN. Some of the passenger
transport routes in Yerevan will be temporarily changed due to
implementation of urban development programs by Yerevan mayor's
office. Deputy mayor of Yerevan Karen Davtian said at the June
23 press conference that 55 minibus routes, 10 bus routes and
one trolly-bus route will be changed from their regular ways.
According to K. Davtian, construction of bypasses and
subways has already begun. Urban development work is underway at
the crossroads of Tigran the Great - Khanjian - Agatangeghos
Streets. Because of heavy traffic at the crossroads, it was
decided to build a multifunctional tunnel subway there and for
this reason a one-sided traffic will be organized at the section
adjacent to the Ayrarat Cinema. The traffic at the section from
Agatangeghos Street to Khanjian Street will also be one-sided
soon. The area will be developed section-by section not to
prevent the traffic flow, and the construction work will be
completed next year.
The deputy mayor said that with the aim of ensuring traffic
safety in the city, pedestrian subways will be built as well.
Construction of a 56-meter-long and 15-meter-wide subway has
started at the crossroads of Nalbandian - Isahakian - Alek
Manukian Streets. Another subway (34-meter-long, 17-meter-wide)
will be built at the Vardanants - Khanjian crossroads.
K. Davtian said that the construction of pedestrian subways
will finish by late 2007, while in 2008 it is envisaged to
construct such subways in various parts of the city,
particularly near schools.
