YEREVAN, JUNE 19, NOYAN TAPAN. Yerevan Mayor's Office
jointly with RA Police and Ministry of Agriculture has been
undertaking measures aimed against sale of foodstuffs made at
open-air points of sale since June 1. As Karen Gevorgian, Head
of Trade and Service Department of Mayor's Office, said in his
interview to Noyan Tapan correspondent, as a result of daily
checkings in Yerevan they have already confiscated 12 devices of
making filled ice-cream, 2 of making cool drinks and 2 of Ghars
barbeque.
In K. Gevorgian's words, though a serious struggle is
carried on against street trade of foodstuffs, it is impossible
to liquidate it only by means of the Mayor's Office. "Such devices
are very many in Yerevan, but they hide them during checkings.
Therefore, we need assistance of prefectures in order to be able
to struggle against not only street trade, but also sale of fast
food as a result of daily checkings," K. Gevorgian said. In his
words, citizens should realize that foodstuffs sold in the
street are dangerous for health, as they are sold in
conditions not corresponding to sanitary norms.
The head of the department said that they are also going to
undertake measures against melon and water-melon sale in the
streets. They have already warned the prefectures to provide
places for melon and water-melon sale in communities, especially
near residential houses.
