34 NEW CASES OF HIV REGISTERED IN ARMENIA IN 3 MONTHS OF

YEREVAN, JUNE 8, NOYAN TAPAN. In the period from 1988 when
first HIV positive persons were diagnosed in Armenia to May 31,
2007, 463 cases of contracting HIV by Armenian citizens were
registered, including 66 cases in 2006. NT correspondent was
informemd at the Republican Center for AIDS Prevention that
there were 34 new cases since the beginning of 2007.
174 HIV positive persons (34 women and 5 children) were
diagnosed as having AIDS, including 23 persons in 2007. 109
cases of death caused by HIV/AIDS have been registered so far,
including 19 women and 3 children.
It was mentioned that assessment of the situation on
HIV/AIDS indicates that 2,800 HIV positive persons live in
Armenia.
