GOODS TRANSPORTATION BY ARMENIAN RAILWAY INCREASES BY 52.7

YEREVAN, JANUARY 23, NOYAN TAPAN. In 2006, the volume of
goods transportation by the Armenian railway made 2,665 thousand
tons against 2,612 thousand tons in the previous year. Exports
grew by 18% and made 512 thousand tons, while imports - by 13%
to 1,250 thousand tons.
According to the annual report that the RA Ministry of
Tramsport and Communication submitted on January 23, a
management board was set up at Armenian Railway CJSC by the
Armenian government's decision with the aim of increasing the
efficiency of the company's management. Besides, in 2006 the
offer made to the Armenian government by American organization
HWTSK (chosen with grant financing of the World Bank ) to
transfer Armenian Railway CJSC by a concessional agreement was
approved. Considerable progress in the company's activities is
expected as a result of this work.
