YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 24, NOYAN TAPAN. A tendency of decrease
of importing Armenia vehicles hijacked abroad has been noticed
during the recent years. Hovik Hovhannisian, the Chief of the
Department on Struggle against Illegal Circulation of Motor
Transport Means of the 3rd Inspectorate of the RA Police
Department General on Struggle against Organized Crime, stated
about it at the November 24 press conference.
In his words, 35 813 motor transport means were reviwed
from 2004 till now. 135 of those were in international
investigation, and factory numbers of 40 ones were re-stamped.
It was found out as a result of researches that compared
with the previous year, 63.2% more vehicles were imported
Armenia in 2005, and the number of vehicles being in
international investigation decreased 39.1%. Those indexes made,
correspondingly, 33% and 40% during the 9 months of 2006. By the
way, 106 of 175 vehicles hijacked in the RF and found out in
Armenia were bought by citizens and brought to the republic from
Georgia.
In H.Hovhannisian's words, the main circumstance making the
affair of founding out hijacked cars is that a number of
countries does not place data of hijacked cars in the Interpol
information basis. He, particularly, mentioned the U.S.,
Australia, Austria, Canada, Cyprus, Georgia, Iran, Iceland,
Isreal, Korea, Portugal, Spain, United Arab Emirates,
Kyrghyzstan and Uzbekistan among those countries.
