IRU READY TO ASSIST ARMENIA WITH RATIFICATION OF SEVERAL
UN CONVENTIONS RELATED TO MOTOR TRANSPORT

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 24, NOYAN TAPAN. Armenia has ratified
only 7 out of the 26 UN conventions on motor transport, while
Georgia and Azerbaijan - 12 and 13 conventions respectively.
Martin Marmin, Secretary-General of the International Road
Transport Union (IRU) said this during the presentation of the
book "The Motor Transport in Transcaucasia - 2006" on November
24. According to him, IRU is ready to assist Armenia with the
ratification of these conventions which will facilitate the trade
and remove transport-related restrictions in the country.
M. Marmin noted that the book describes in detail the
current state and the development prospects of motor transport
in the three countries of Transcaucasia. Thus, 77% of
transportation in Armenia is done by motor transport, thanks to
which the domestic trade grew by 20% in 2005.
The IRU was established in 1948 and has its offices in 70
countries, including Armenia. The major goal of the union to
facilitate transportation and trade by motor transport.
