MEASURES AIMED AT PREVENTION OF PENETRATION AND SPREADING
OF BIRD FLU CONTINUE TO BE IMPLEMENTED IN ARMENIA

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 15, NOYAN TAPAN. Though no cases of bird
flu have been registered in Armenia, the respective measures
continue to be implemented for preventing penetration and
spreading of the disease. Noyan Tapan correspondent was informed
about it by Susan Wood, member of Bird Flu Interdepartmental
Headquarters in Armenia, communication specialist. In her words,
Armenia is on the way of birds of passage, so the danger of bird
flu outbreak exists until April, the end of the passage. "If a
case of bird flu is registered in Armenia, it is easy to control
and prevent its spreading," she said.
S.Wood said that currently RA government with assistance of
a number of international organizations undertakes all necessary
measures to provide poultry farms security. In her words, 900
veterinary surgeons have been already retrained, periodic visits
are organized to rural populated areas.
S.Wood said that a program called Be Informed, Be Healthy
has started lately. In her words, the goal of the action is to
promote consumers' confidence, to inform the public about bird
flu, to teach about the principles of food and biological
security.
