YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 8, NOYAN TAPAN. The Armenian government
is prepared to sell its stake of ArmenTel to the new purchaser
of the company. The RA Minister of Transport and Communication
Andranik Manukian said during a talk with reporters on November
8 that the government will give up its 10% stake of the
ArmenTel's shares if BeeLine company - part of the Russian
company Vymplecom, which will buy 90% of ArmenTel's shares
belonging to the Greek company OTE, in its turn renounces
ArmenTel's exclusive rights. In response to reporters' question,
the minister said that BeeLine has not yet made such an offer.
Responding to the question about whether it is true that
the Arab company - participant of the tender for sale of
ArmenTel shares had offered 100 mln euros more for these shares,
A. Manukian replied that he is not familiar with the package of
the tender proposals.
According to him, the new owner of ArmenTel will assume all
the obligations of the company, including the obligation to
provide 200 villages with digital phone communication. A.
Manukian ruled out that a third operator may enter the Armenian
mobile phone communication market until 2009.
