ROBERT KOCHARIAN: ARMENIA HAS SMALL BUT VITAL BANKING
SYSTEM

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 3, NOYAN TAPAN. Opportunities of
cooperation with the Interstate Bank and the Eurasian
Development Bank were discussed at the November 3 meeting of RA
President Robert Kocharian with Chairman of the Central Bank of
Russia Sergei Ignatyev, Chairman of Kazakhstan's National Bank
Anvar Saydenov, Chairman of the Interstate Bank Anatoli
Turkadze, Secretary-General of EurasEC Grigori Rapota and
Chairman of the Eurasian Development Bank Igor Finogeniov. The
interlocutors attached special importance to close cooperation
of the two structures with the use of each other's resources and
programs.
According to a press release of the RA President's press
service, the guests arrived in Armenia to participate in a
regular sitting of the Interstate Bank Board. Armenia currently
presides over the Interstate Bank Board.
Assesing the cooperation with the Interstate Bank as
efficient, Robert Kocharian said that serious programs of
reforms in the country's energy sector have been implemented
with the active participation of this bank. He said that Armenia
has a small but vital and healthy banking system. He pointed out
the necessity for extension of the banking system and the
financial sector in it. In his words, the recent years' reforms
allow to carry out work aimed at developing insurance, mortgage
and pension services.
