AVIAN INFLUENZA DIAGNOSIS SECOND DEGREE LABORATORY TO BE
FOUNDED IN YEREVAN

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 3, NOYAN TAPAN. The World Health
Organization experts who recently arrived in Armenia estimated
positively the possibilities of founding a laboratory for
diagnosis of the avian influenza in the counrty. Irina Papiyeva,
the coordinator of the "Strengthening of the health care system
of Armenia to improve its readiness to counteract bird and man's
influenza" program of the WHO Armenian Office, stated the Noyan
Tapan correspondent about it. In her words, the laboratory,
which will be of second degree, will be founded at the RA Health
Care Ministry's Center for Preventing Infection Disease. To
recap, the Government of Austria allocated 200 thousand evros to
the RA Government to creat a similar laboratory in Armenia.
The program coordinator mentioned that equipment necessary
for the laboratory will be got during the coming 3 months.
Besides, specialists working in the laboratory will be
re-trained.
At the same time, I.Papiyeva mentioned that the second
degree laboratory may not implement final diagnosis of the avian
influenza. In her words, European countries address to the
London "New Hill" laboratory for final diagnosis of the avian
influenza.
