YEREVAN, OCTOBER 5, NOYAN TAPAN. Co-Chairmen of the
intergovernmental commission on Armenian-Romanian
commercial-economic and scientific-technical cooperation, RA
Minister of Transport and Communication Andranik Manukian and
Minister Delegate for Trade Iuliu Winkler singed a protocol on
development of mutual economic cooperation between Armenia and
Romania.
In A.Manukian's words, main directions of development of
the Armenian-Romanian economic mutual cooperation are fixed in
that document. In the Minister's words, though the economic
cooperation between the two countries considerably grew during
the last years, however it does not reflect the existing
possibilities to suficient extent.
Presenting sizes of commodity circulation between the two
countries, A.Manukian stated that it made more than 75.2 mln
U.S. dollars in 2005, and export from Romania to Armenia already
made 37.6 mln dollars during the first months of 2006. At the
same time the Minister mentioned that Armenia is considerably
inferior to Romania with volumes of export. Besides, no Romanian
enterprise functions in Armenia, when 37 Armenian-Romanian joint
ventures are registered in Romania at present, with more than
3.5 mln dollars investment of the Armenian side.
I.Winkler mentioned in his turn, that Romania is interested
especially in spheres of agriculture, small and medium-sized
entrepreneurial activity, tourism, goods transportation and
energetics of Armenia. "As my country will become a full member
of the European Union from January, 2007, it must foster the
economic policy of the European union. Hence, the
Armenian-Romanian economic cooperation will give possibility to
Armenia to penetrate into the European market," the Minister
mentioned.
To recap, the next sitting of the intergovernmental
commission on Armenian-Romanian commercial-economic and
scientific-technical cooperation will take place in Bucharest.
