CONSUMER PRICES GROW 4.3% IN ARMENIA IN JANUARY-JUNE

YEREVAN, JUNE 30, NOYAN TAPAN. Consumer prices grew 4.3% in Armenia in June 2006 on December 2005, including a 6.7% increase in the prices of food commodities (including alcoholic drinks and cigarettes), a 2.3% increase in prices of nonfood commodities, and a 1.3% growth in service tariffs. According to the RA National Statistical Service, the 5.6% inflation in January-May 2006 was followed by a 1.2% deflation in June on the Armenian consumer market, which was mainly due to seasonal fluctuations in prices of some goods. Food commodity prices (including alcoholic drinks and cigarettes) fell by 2.1% in June on May, non-food commodity prices grew by 0.3, and service tariffs fell by 0.2%. The average monthly growth in consumer prices made 0.7% in January-June 2006, exceeding by 0.5% the index of the same period of last year (0.2%).
