YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 26, NOYAN TAPAN. Today many of over 4000 leavers of physics and mathematics special school after Artashes Shahinian attached to Yerevan State University are leading specialists engaged in science and economy, are national and public figures, those working in the sphere of education and culture. As Haykaz Navasardian, school headmaster, mentioned at the September 26 solemn event dedicated to the 40th anniversary of school's foundation, today many of them are well-known abroad for their scientific discoveries. According to the headmaster, the goal of founding the school was to organize profound study for children from different regions of Armenia and abroad gifted in physics and mathematics. "During the years of its existence the school has always been a "forge" of school subject olympiads," H.Navasardian emphasized. Armenia has been participating in international olympiads only since 1992. 28 pupils from this school won medals at international olympiads and 11 got honor certificates in Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy and Chemistry.
