YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 23, NOYAN TAPAN. The Chamber of Advocates
of the Republic of Armenia encourages and welcomes the fact,
when Armenian advocates come to Armenia from abroad for the
purpose of carrying out advocatory activities in Armenia and
receive a lisence. As advocate Ruben Sahakian, the Chairman of
the Chamber of Advocates of the Republic of Armenia, declared in
his interview with a Noyan Tapan correspondent, Raymond
Yezegelian, an advocate living in France, is the first among the
advocates of France, who has received a lisence. Ruben Sahakian
stressed that according to Article 17 of the Law on "Advocacy",
a foreign advocate can be accredited and operate in Armenia,
according to the power of attorney: the law does not envisage a
swearing-in ceremony by a foreign advocate, however, Raymond
Yezegelian offered to make an oath on his own initiative, "and
we were not against." A small gathering was organized in the
Golden Tulip hotel of Yerevan, where the French-Armenian
advocate swore an oath: "As he does not master the Armenian
language very well, I read the text and made an oath with him
for the second time," Ruben Sahakian said. Raymond Yezegelian
promised the participants of the gathering to master Armenian in
a year.
According to the head of the advocatory structure of
Armenia, this event can become a stipulus for the Armenians
living abroad to be accredited in Armenia, advocacy will only
gain from it. "They will carry on very few cases, they will
mainly serve companies of civil and economic character, which
carry out activities in their country and Armenia," Ruben
Sahakian said.
Up to now advocates from Iran, Russia, Great Britain and
Canada have received lisences.
