Yerevan, 4 March 2011 – The art exhibition dedicated to International Women's Day (8 March, 2011) was opened today in the UN House, focusing on “Equal access to education, training and science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women", which is the theme of this year’s celebration. The bright paintings of two talented Armenians, Mrs. Flora Baghdasaryan and Mr. Vladimir Grigoryan, were exhibited. Their art work displayed at the UN House attracted attention from various groups of people, including from youth, painters, the international community, civil society groups, the media and the general public. The organization of the exhibition aimed at complimenting the country’s efforts and raising public awareness on the issues of gender equality and women’s empowerment globally and, particularly, in Armenia. The achievement of equal rights and dignity for all is a fundamental principle to the global mission of the United Nations. Dafina Gercheva, UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative said: “Through Armenian artwork, the UN Office in Armenia wishes to once again attract public attention to the promotion of gender equality and to pay a tribute to women’s contributions to the political, economic, cultural and social sphere of Armenian society.” (TBC) The painter, Flora Baghdasaryan added: “Armenian women appreciate the important role which the UN plays in the promotion of all issues related to gender equality.” The exhibition will be open to the public for three weeks until 28 April, 2011 on Mondays to Fridays from 12:00 till 15:00.
