Yerevan, Armenia (November 12, 2010) — An official launch ceremony of the new
Alternative Resources in Media (ARM) program has taken place to further the efforts
targeted at media development in Armenia, particularly at promoting the information and
views missing in mainstream Armenian media.
The “Alternative Resources in Media” (ARM) program aims at enhancing and
improving access to pluralistic and unbiased information in Armenia via traditional and
alternative media through the use of new information technologies.
The program is jointly implemented by Internews Network (USA), Eurasia Partnership
Foundation, Yerevan Press Club and «Internews¿ Media Support NGO.
The program is made possible by the support of the American People through the United
States Agency for International Development (USAID).
ARM is planned to have three main components: production and distribution of
alternative content, promotion of media literacy and legal advocacy and monitoring.
Combining local expertise and extensive international practice, ARM will pursue an
integrated approach to build civic demand for alternative content, promote new patterns
of information production and dissemination and enhance public advocacy on media
freedom.
The main focus of the program is to support Armenian media outlets to embrace the
opportunities and challenges brought by technological advances and to build on
traditional tools in bringing independent and quality news to the Armenian population.
The program will simultaneously address key issues affecting media environment in
Armenia, working closely with media support organizations to foster an enabling
environment for diverse and free media.
ARM program will also seek to help the Armenian people to become active creators of
content and smart news consumers in the new information age. The program will reach
out to journalists, media managers and citizen journalists and will provide grant support
to numerous media groups to produce alternative content and disseminate that content
across multiple platforms.
The implementers of the Alternative Resources in Media program express their sincere
thanks to the Synopsys Armenia CJSC Team for warm hospitality and great assistance
hosting the official launch ceremony of the program at the Synopsys premises.
