ICRC reiterates its offer of neutral intermediary in Armenia and Azerbaijan

Geneva (ICRC) - In the frame of her regional tour to Armenia and Azerbaijan, ICRC Head of Operations for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Pascale Meige Wagner has just ended her visit to the region. During the visit, she met with the Ministers of Defence and Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the abovementioned countries. The talks were focused on the ICRC action and role in the region in relation to the Nagorny Karabalh conflict. "The situation in the region remains a concern for the ICRC", said Mrs. Meige Wagner. "We needed to clarify our role as neutral intermediary organization with the regards to repatriation of prisoners of war, civilian internees and human remains". During her visit, Mrs. Meige Wagner also held talks with the other ministries and presidents of National Societies. The ICRC has been working in Armenia and Azerbaijan since 1992 assisting and protecting people and communities affected by the Nagorny Karabakh conflict.
